Sporty Spice could just be the next Gladiator with her new look as she tells fans ‘prepare to sweat’ ahead of the release of her new solo album on 1 May
Mel C may be Sporty Spice but her incredible transformation ahead of the release of her new album makes her look like one of the Gladiators. Mel, whose full name is Melanie Chisholm, took to Instagram with a video showing off her toned muscles.
In the video, Mel was done up in full gym glam. Her hair was teased into a fluffy main, not unlike current Gladiator Sabre, and she had huge hooped earrings on. She also wore orange heels and an orange, red and navy leotard, cinched with a chunky belt and designed to highlight all the muscles in her arms and legs.
Mel struck several poses that showed off her muscles, which were incredibly toned, to their full potential. The poses were reminiscent of the Gladiators. Sporty Spice appears to have made exercise the theme of her new album, Sweat. Not only is her Gladiator get up the cover art for the album, but the accompanying art includes the star on an exercise bike.

In the caption of her Instagram post, Mel wrote: “Prepare to SWEAT! Two weeks to go. Link in bio to pre-order.” The album will be released on 1 May and the comments of the post were filled with excitement from fans who couldn’t wait for the new album, as well as awe for Mel’s new look.
One fan wrote: “Wow so fit on the first video. I so can’t wait for the album.” Another added: “Born ready! Best era omg!” A third said Mel was a “goddess”.
Mel has previously shared elements of her workout routine. She posted a video montage of herself in the gym to Instagram, which included pull ups, hip thrusts and dead lifts with heavy weights.
Mel also recently crushed fans hopes of a Spice Girls reunion. The star said in a radio interview in March that while the girls would want to “do something”, there were no plans to reunite.
She told Australia’s KIIS Radio: “No, there is no reunion. We are communicating all the time. We want to do something – who knows when. But I still feel very optimistic and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”
The news will come as a massive blow for fans – Mel C said the group were discussing the reunion as recently as January. And last April, The Sun reported how Geri Halliwell-Horner was in talks with the group’s former manager, Simon Fuller, and had jetted off to Miami to discuss a deal.
Victoria Beckham – who was absent for the last reunion – also seemed keen. She sparked rumours she might return, saying she “loves” the idea of a Las Vegas residence at Sphere and it would be “tempting”.
Speaking on US radio station Sirius XM, she said: “It would be tempting. But could I take on a world tour? No I can’t. I have a job… How good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere! I love the idea of it. I mean I don’t know if I could even still sing, I mean I was never that great!”
Mel’s new album is her ninth solo album. The first, Northern Star, was released in 1999 and reached number four on the UK Albums Chart. All of her fellow Spice Girls have done solo albums as well. Mel B has done two, Geri Halliwell-Horner has released three, Emma Bunton released four and Victoria Beckham released one. Mel C, Geri and Emma have all had albums peak at number four on the UK charts, sharing the record for best performing solo album by a Spice Girl.
