Spider-Man: No Way Home actress Mary Rivera has died at the age of 82.
The Marvel star, who was best known for her role as the grandmother of Spiderman’s best friend Jacob Batalon’s Ned, died at hospital in Hawaii earlier this year.
According to reports, she suffered a stroke and was placed into a coma, with her family being warned that her condition was extremely serious.
A loved one told TMZ that they made the heartbreaking decision to remove her from life support and she later died on April 15.
Her celebration of life was later held on June 6 at the Trinity Central Oahu Church at the Mililani Tech Park.
Tributes poured in for the late star beneath her public obituary, with a friend sharing: “As my mentor and colleague, you will be missed tremendously. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to the Rivera family during this difficult time.”
Another person offered their condolences to the family, describing her as “such a genuine, warm and loving person”.
Rivera previously worked as a Missionary for the church before turning her attention to Hollywood, when she was cast in 2021 blockbuster No Way Home – a role her family encouraged her to go for,
After landing the part, she joined stars including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jamie Foxx on set as Ned’s beloved grandmother, and was said to be “very proud” of her efforts.
In her memorable scene, she witnessed the moment Andrew Garfield’s Peter made his big comeback, in a tense scene with Ned and Zendaya’s MJ.
While she was terrified at what was unfolding in front of her at first, she quickly understood the situation and made the most of her brief time with Spider-Man, asking him to remove a cobweb for her..
Away from the big screen, Rivera is survived by her husband, Alejandro Rivera, their four children, 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
