Outdoor shoots can be an uncomfortable experience for women in film crews. Sreeleela, who recently shot in gruelling conditions, realized that often, there is no privacy for these women to even answer the call of nature.
The actress has shared her thoughts on how this situation can be eased. “As actresses in this generation, we have the advantage of cars and vans. But other women on set don’t have these facilities. So I feel it is our responsibility to tell women ADs (assistant directors) or other ladies like dancers, ‘Hey, you can come anytime to use my facility.’ That is basic humanness.”
Agreeing with Sreeleela, veteran actress Hema Malini says, “She is right. At least she has the privilege of having access to a van. When we shot in the wilderness for Sholay there was no van, no hotel, not even a proper restroom, I think extending the use of one’s restroom facility to other women in the crew is the decent thing to do.”
