Sreesanth Blocks Harbhajan Singh For Earning Crores By Making IPL Slapgate Ad, ‘Will Never Forget..’

Harbhajan Singh remained a headliner in sports journalism for his contribution to Indian cricket. While his skills were something that would be talked about mostly, a controversy around him also grabbed significant attention. It was during the inaugural season of IPL in 2008, when, during a match, Bhajji ended up slapping Santhakumaran Sreesanth, who was with the opposition team.

Sreesanth alleges that Harbhajan Singh made a commercial on the infamous IPL Slapgate controversy

The Slapgate controversy instantly became the talk of the town, leading Singh to be restricted for the entire season. While years have passed, and as it seemed Santhakumaran Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh might have buried the hatchet, it’s actually not the case. The controversy recently reopened as Santhakumaran Sreesanth recently claimed that Bhajji has used this assault to earn money, allegedly through a commercial he recently did.

It was during 2008 IPL, when Harbhajan Singh was playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI), and Santhakumaran Sreesanth was with the Kings XI Punjab. The match was won by Kings XI Punjab; however, to everyone’s surprise, it was Harbhajan who ended up slapping Sreesanth. In several of his interviews, Bhajji has spoken about the same, regretting it. Sreesanth never really made any comments until recently. In a recent interview with Mathrubhumi, Sreesanth said that while he didn’t speak about the incident or Harbhajan publicly, it would be his first time making any comments.

Sreesanth will forgive Harbhajan, but will never forget what he did

Sreesanth said that everything was fine until recently, when Harbhajan Singh actually ended up making an ad around the IPL Slapgate controversy. Not only did he make the ad and earned around Rs. 80 lakh to Rs. 1 crore from it, but also reached out to Sreesanth, and asked him to repost the advertisement on his social. As per Sreesanth, it was the final straw. Sreesanth mentioned that he replied to Bhajji by saying that he will forgive him, but never forget what he did. Speaking more about the same, Sreesanth said:

“Until recently there were no problems, but he made an ad about it once again. He made around Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1 crore off it. He then called me and asked me to put a story on it. I told him, ‘I’ll forgive but I’ll never forget’. If someone wrongs you, you should forgive them but never forget. If you forget, they will do the same thing again. He is the biggest example for that. There is no doubt about that.”

Sreesanth has blocked Harbhajan Singh on social media

Harbhajan Singh has spoken about the Slapgate controversy, now and then. It was in July 2025, when speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhajji was asked what he would want to change in his life. To this, the cricketer said that he would want to change the incident involving Sreensanth. He further stated that what he did was wrong, and he apologised more than 200 times. He also mentioned that Sreesanth’s only fault was that he had provoked him. Bhajji also mentioned how he once met Sreesanth’s daughter, and while he was speaking to her with love and respect, she refused to interact, stating that the cricketer had hit his father.

Well, in the recent interview, Sreesanth mentioned that while Bhajji spoke about all these things in his interview, he feels like it was all an act. He further wished him luck, stating he had nothing to do with the cricketer. In the same interview, Sreesanth stated that he has no relationship with Harbhajan Singh, whom he once called his brother, while adding that the latter has been blocked by him in the last 1-2 months after he commercialised the Slapgate controversy. Sreesanth could be quoted as saying:

“I have no relationship with that person. I used to call him a brother. But in that last 1 or 2 months he did that ad and now I have blocked him on Instagram.”
