Hyderabad: The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) concluded its three-city destination wedding roadshow across Hyderabad, Surat and Pune, taking Sri Lanka’s wedding proposition to India’s wedding fraternity. Bringing together wedding planners, travel professionals, media. The roadshow positioned Sri Lanka as a premium and versatile destination where couples can transform their wedding into a celebration and holiday with family and friends.
With tropical beaches, resorts, heritage sites, misty mountains and intimate venues, Sri Lanka offers possibilities for destination weddings. Couples can exchange vows overlooking the Indian Ocean, celebrate amid the central highlands, host ceremonies at heritage properties or create spectacular multi-day celebrations at luxury resorts. From the southern coast and Colombo to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, the destination offers flexibility to reflect each couple’s personality, traditions and dreams.
Sri Lanka’s proposition is strengthened by experienced wedding planners and hospitality professionals who bring together venues, décor, catering, entertainment, photography, transport, guest management. The industry can accommodate Indian traditions, personalised menus, themed décor and pre and post wedding celebrations, giving families confidence to celebrate overseas.
The roadshow also highlighted the appeal of the “wedding plus holiday” concept. Guests can combine celebrations with beach escapes, cultural excursions, wildlife safaris, wellness experiences, scenic journeys, shopping and culinary discovery. With convenient access from India and varied accommodation, families can celebrate together while discovering an international destination with ease.
Speaking during the roadshow, Deputy Managing Director, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Mr Chamila Jayarathne, said, “India continues to be an important market for Sri Lanka, and destination weddings offer an exciting opportunity to deepen this relationship. Indian couples and families are looking for beautiful settings, seamless hospitality, memorable experiences and ease of travel. Sri Lanka brings these strengths together, and this roadshow allowed us to take that proposition directly to the professionals shaping wedding decisions.”
Chairman, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Mr Buddhika Hewawasam, said, “India remains a focus market, and our strategy is to develop propositions that reflect the changing interests of Indian travellers. Destination weddings allow us to present Sri Lanka as more than a venue: as a country where celebration, discovery and togetherness become part of one journey. By engaging wedding planners and travel professionals in Hyderabad, Surat and Pune, we aim to build visibility and bring Sri Lanka into the conversation from the beginning.”
Adding a vibrant cultural touch to all three roadshows was “The Heritage of Kandyan”, a captivating presentation celebrating Sri Lanka’s rich dance traditions. The performance brought the island’s cultural heritage to life through powerful rhythms, graceful movements and the regal energy of the traditional dance, presented by male and female dancers in striking costumes and ornaments. More than a performance, it offered wedding planners and media a glimpse of how Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage can add colour, character and a distinctive sense of place to an Indian wedding celebration.
Through this initiative, Sri Lanka Tourism aims to deepen industry partnerships and position Sri Lanka as a destination for distinctive celebrations. From grand beachfront affairs to intimate mountain ceremonies, every wedding can become a story of love, discovery and togetherness.
In Sri Lanka, the wedding is not where the journey ends – it is where the itbegins.
