Visakhapatnam: The District Central Library in Visakhapatnam on Thursday marked the 116th birth anniversary of revolutionary poet Sri Sri (Srirangam Srinivasa Rao) with a commemorative event.
The programme was attended by Vannemreddy Satish Kumar, president of the combined Visakhapatnam Jilla Grandhalaya Samstha, along with secretary Burri Kumar Raju, librarian P.V. Nookaraju, students and readers.
The event began with the garlanding of Sri Sri’s portrait, followed by tributes to his enduring legacy. Speakers highlighted his progressive poetry, which championed the oppressed and transformed Telugu literature through works such as Mahaprasthanam and poems like Kukkapilla, Aggipulla and Sabbubilla.
They also noted his contribution to cinema through thousands of film lyrics, which earned him honours including the Sahitya Akademi Award, National Film Award and Nandi Award.
Describing him as ‘Mahakavi’ and ‘Viplava Kavi’, Satish Kumar urged participants to revisit Sri Sri’s writings, stating that his words continue to inspire rebellion and hope across generations.
