Stacey Dooley recently moved to Merseyside with her Strictly star partner Kevin Clifton and their daughter, Minnie, bringing them closer to the documentary filmmaker’s mum
Stacey Dooley has revealed her true feelings about moving to Liverpool with her family. The presenter recently relocated to Merseyside alongside her partner, ex-Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, and their daughter, Minnie, moving them nearer to Stacey’s mum.
The documentarian’s family hails from Speke, though she was born in Luton and has lived predominantly in London. Nevertheless, Stacey admits she’s “always had an affinity” for Liverpool.
Her remarks emerged during an interview with Amy Jackson Westwick on her podcast, What’s The Tea, Amy?. In the January instalment, Stacey lavished praise on Scousers, claiming they “bend over backwards” for you.
Amy suggested they may have “something in common” and that her guest was sporting the “perfect colour”. Stacey responded: “You never walk alone?”, prompting Liverpool-born actress Amy to burst into song and reveal that “Mama’s half-Scouse”.
Stacey explained: “So my mum’s Scouse; my mum…my family are from Speke, so south Liverpool. My nan was scouse…all that side, you know, my grandad, they’re all there. And obviously, I was born in Luton, lived in London most of my life.
“But I’ve always had like a bit of a soft spot – it sounds a bit woo-woo – but I really have always had an affinity. Like, I love, I deeply love, Liverpool.”
She continued: “But it’s like when I get off the train, and I’m in Liverpool, and I’m surrounded by Scousers, I feel at home. Like, I do”. Amy described the city as “very welcoming” and that it feels like there’s “Liverpool and the rest of the country”.
Stacey agreed: “I would echo that, honestly. I’ve been up there a couple of years – so we live up there now. Been up there a couple of years, and people just can’t do enough for you. They bend over backwards, do you know what I mean?
“And it’s such…it sort of pains me to say, but it is, it’s night and day, the north and the south.”
Stacey has shared her appreciation for Liverpool before, describing herself as an “honorary Scouser” after warm encounters in the city. She also spoke about her move on the Parenting Hell podcast, hosted by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe.
The Strictly winner explained: “She’s [mum] really hands-on and if she wasn’t on the scene, and I appreciate this isn’t always the way for many people, I think I would really struggle. I don’t think I’d be able to work actually.
“[It was] A mixture of reasons but primarily, she’s our nanny. And I wanted the baby close to her nan and it’s a lovely relationship to nurture.
“The pair of them are thick as thieves. I don’t really exist when my mum’s around. I’m doing the house up. I bought this really beautiful house but it’s so old, it’s on its last legs.”
In other news, Stacey recently revealed she was missing Kevin as she marked her 39th birthday. She took to Instagram to share a personal update to mark the day, noting that it was an “utter treat” to celebrate another year.
She said: “THIRTY FINE TODAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. What an utter TREAT to be able to celebrate another year.
“All I’m REALLY a***d about is love, health and being surrounded by goodies. Lucky, lucky me. Oh. And boats. Celebrating in Australia, with my baby girl, on a boat filming. Miss you Kev. HERE’S TO MORE LIFE.”
Catch Stacey on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on BBC One tonight (May 2), from 7pm to 8pm.
