Stacey Dooley has gone to Blackpool with her daughter, whom she shares with former pro dancer Kevin Clifton, to reminisce about Strictly Come Dancing, where she and Kevin met

Stacey Dooley has taken her daughter, Minnie, to the iconic Blackpool Ballroom, to show her where her parents danced together whilst on Strictly Come Dancing.

Stacey and her partner Kevin Clifton first met in 2018 when they were coupled together for Strictly Come Dancing. They would eventually win the show. Following their win, they started a relationship and, in 2023, their daughter was born. Whilst on the show, one of Stacey and Kevin’s most iconic dances was a salsa to ‘Ooh Aah (Just a Little Bit)’ by Gina G, in which Stacey descended onto the Blackpool ballroom on a stick of rock.

Now, Stacey has returned to the ballroom with her three-year-old. She posted their trip to her Instagram, starting with a post about her dance and why she took Minnie to the ballroom.

Over a white background, she shared Google description of her dance, which read: “The Entrance: Opened the iconic Blackpool episode by descending from the ceiling on a giant stick of Blackpool rock with her professional partner Kevin Clifton.”

Stacey then wrote in yellow writing over the top: “Brought Queen Mins to Blackpool to show her her parents’ (mostly mother’s) culture today. Descending from the ceiling on a giant stick of Blackpool rock. Get. It. Girl. Actually. Neva 4get.”

In the next picture, she shared and image of herself on the stick of rock and wrote: “Hand it in the National History Museum already”. This was followed by a selfie of her and Kevin back in the ballroom, with the words: “Eight years and no sleep later.”

Finally, she shared a video, shot by Kevin, of her and Minnie walking into the ballroom. As they walked up, music could be heard playing, and ballroom dancers could be seen dancing a Quickstep.

Kevin left Strictly a year after dancing with Stacey. While Stacey continued making documentaries, Kevin pursued a career on the stage, starring as Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages, Scott Hastings in Strictly Ballroom and Billy Flynn in Chicago. In 2025, both he and Stacey appeared in 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Reflecting on working together again, Stacey said that their time on Strictly had prepared them well for the experience. Speaking on Amy Jackson’s What’s The Tea with Amy podcast, she said: “I did it on my own last year in town and I loved it and then when we found out it was going on tour I was like, I wonder if there’s a world where me and Kev could play husband and wife?

“So, we pitched it and they were really up for it,” she added. Addressing the concerns that followed, the presenter continued: “Everyone was saying, when we were doing all the interviews, ‘How are you two not going to kill each other?’.”

In response, she pointed out that they “did Covid together” and met on Strictly, which she described as “really intense”. She added that Kevin was “such a gent”, making it easy for her to have a “soft spot” for him.

She finished: “I mean we were tight doing Strictly and that was intense and you’re with each other the whole time, then we got together properly and made a go of things in the new year and we’ve been together ever since.”
