EXCLUSIVE Joe Swash admits his mum and sister were concerned with reports about wife Stacey not wearing her wedding ring

Stacey Solomon and husband Joe Swash have addressed the state of their ‘marriage’ in the opening episode of their new reality TV series. The TV star and former EastEnders actor were seen to tie the knot at their home in 2022 but chose not to legally marry.

The pair devote a whole segment of their BBC series to a period where Stacey was photographed a number of times without her wedding ring at the start of the year. The move sparked huge speculation they were having problems but she insisted at the time that was “rubbish” and she had forgotten to put her rings back on.

There was further upset as it emerged the duo never had their union legally registered, meaning they are not technically married under UK law.

In the new series of Stacey & Joe, although they insist there were no major wobbles at this point in the relationship, Joe admits Stacey “started it” in terms of the backlash, by not wearing her wedding ring.

He says of the story and speculation: “It just keeps getting bigger and bigger until my mum’s asking questions and my sister, and it’s definitely getting out of hand and it’s taking on a whole life of its own now.”

Opening the episode Stacey also mocks the previous reports and makes Joe laugh by saying: “Despite what the press say, we’re still together. Much to our disappointment.”

Amid the declaration of togetherness, the pair are not afraid to show some of the more challenging side of their union in their new series.

Joe brands Stacey “annoying” because she is often checking if he has completed things he is meant to do. Stacey, 37, then admits she has not been ‘available’ to help Joe, 44, build a fishing lake with accommodation as her career soared.

She explains: “Joe keeps saying to me, ‘Can you help me with the lake?’ And I feel like I do want to help him with the lake, and I do want to get involved. Otherwise, he’s never going to do it.

“He wants to give it his all, and I do think that I could help him with that if I give myself some space and let go of a few things my end then I can start putting a bit of energy into him because I don’t think I’ve, I don’t feel like I’ve been available.”

The pair tied the knot in the grounds of their family home, Pickle Cottage, back in 2022, surrounded by their closest friends and family.

However, as previously reported, they did not obtain a marriage license for the garden ceremony so have never officially sealed the deal and it is not thought to be legally binding.

The pair have a blended family, including six children, many of who feature in the series which includes Stacey’s eldest Zachary from a previous relationship and Rex, Rose and Belle Swash who are the three youngest.

Joe surprises his mum in the new series by suggesting he could be open to having more children. At a family gathering with a baby he says: “We haven’t had a baby in the family for ages. It does make me broody.”

His sister then says “I thought you was done?” Joe adds: “We probably are done with having kids I reckon, but you know….”

And viewers also see in episode one the moment Stacey decides to move away from Pickle Cottage, with Joe’s face suggesting he is shocked by her decision to want to go look at another house.

After admitting she has seen a house for sale online she wants to look at, Joe says: “This is where it starts because it’s like the little seed there. Then by next week we’ll be moving in.”

Stacey says: “Part of me would love to have more land so we could rescue more animals. I also do love an adventure. I love bringing a house back to life.” The family left Pickle Cottage in September this year.

The pair have admitted in the past that their relationship isn’t perfect, but also said no marriage is. Stacey previously said: “Is there such a thing though? I think sometimes it’s really good and sometimes it’s really c**p ain’t it? I think sometimes, everyone’s looking for this perfect partner, when actually the perfect one is the one you want to kill half the time, and are in love with half the time.”
