Stacey Solomon revealed she had turned to her co-star for help, offering a surprising insight into life at the home she shares with Joe Swash
Stacey Solomon has made a surprising admission about life at Pickle Cottage as she reflected on her hit BBC series, Sort Your Life Out. Alongside professional organiser Dilly Carter and her team, the 36-year-old helps homeowners decide which possessions to keep and which to throw out as part of a major decluttering process.
Speaking to Dilly on their Sort Your Life Out Unpacked podcast, Stacey offered a glimpse into family life at her Essex home with her husband, Joe Swash, their three children, Rex, Rose and Belle, as well as Stacey’s two eldest sons, Zachary and Leighton.
Discussing their contrasting approaches to organisation, Stacey revealed that she and Leighton are the tidier members of the household, while Joe and Zachary are much less concerned with keeping things in order.
“Joe is the opposite to me,” she revealed. “He actually needs a bit of chaos, I like things organised and because that helps me.
“Joe’s brain works totally different from mine so sometimes he does need to navigate through my life, that doesn’t mean that is the right way to live, Joe’s brain works totally differently from mine.
“And so sometimes he does need things to be a little bit chaotic.”
When asked whether there was anything she should throw away, Stacey laughed and admitted: “Nothing, you know I’m a secret hoarder.”
Dilly quickly agreed, revealing she had often encouraged her co-star to part with certain belongings.
“You do like to keep a lot of stuff,” she shared.
“I’ve had you round my house helping me and every time you’re like, ‘I think it’s time to let this one go’, I’m like… I’ll find a reason [to keep it],” Stacey confessed. “I’m worse than all of the people who come onto our show.”
Reassuring her friend, Dilly responded: “You’re not worse than them but you can definitely relate to those people.”
The couple purchased their £1.3 million Essex home in 2021, ahead of their wedding the following year.
Speaking fondly about the property, Stacey admitted that she and Joe were overwhelmed with emotion when they first moved in.
“I remember when me and Joe bought Pickle Cottage and, this is going to sound really stupid, but for like three weeks every day, we would walk out of it and just cry because we did not expect to ever grow up and be able to live in a house like that,” she shared.
“He’s from Islington and I’m from Dagenham, I know they say you grow up and you dream of these kind of things but Pickle Cottage wasn’t a dream for us growing up, because I didn’t even know houses like that existed.”
She added: “So when we got Pickle Cottage I just think we were like, ‘Oh my god, we live in a house like this, like when did this happen and how did this happen?’ And I think I’m proud of every bit of my house.”
