According to Detroit Lions writer Dave Birkett, the Lions bolstered a banged-up Detroit secondary by signing former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Bishop Fitzgerald from the Steelers practice squad. The addition gives the Lions a solid player to replace defensive back Avante Maddox and leaves the Steelers even thinner at safety.
Fitzgerald, a rookie, showed a lot of promise in the offseason while with the Tennessee Titans. He was released by the Titans before the Steelers scooped him up and added him to the practice squad. He is a well-traveled defensive back with stops at Coffeyville Community College, North Carolina State and finally USC. He finished 2025 with five interceptions.
