Georgia Harrison’s ex Stephen Bear has been convicted of breaching the terms of the restraining order against him after launching an online campaign against her
Stephen Bear has been convicted of breaching the terms of ex Georgia Harrison‘s restraining order against him. Having already served time in prison for illegally putting a sex tape of them on OnlyFans, he has plead guilty to breaching the restraining order after he launched an online campaign against his ex girlfriend.
After he was released from prison in early 2024, Bear embarked on a social media campaign in which he accused Harrison of being part of a conspiracy against him, with his guilty verdict being the result of a hidden plot. Some of the posts were viewed millions of times and many included images of Harrison along with defamatory statements.
Harrison, who was pregnant at the time, was left distressed and traumatised, but she revealed that this was the not the reason she chose not to head to court to see him convicted. She told The Sun: “I didn’t go to court this week.
“I didn’t stay away because it’s too hard. I stayed away because being there would give him the one thing he has always wanted, and the one thing the manosphere machine runs on: attention. A reaction and a spectacle.”
She added that “attention was worth more” to Bear “than the consequences” of his crimes and that the manosphere system was rewarding him for that. As such, she wanted to focus on changing “the culture” than watching as her ex went to prison again.
Harrison has long campaign for the law to better protect women and girls from acts of violence. She first rose to fame when she appeared on Love Island in 2017, but by 2021, she had become an activist. Her work as a campaigner for women has earned her an MBE, making her the first Love Islander to be honoured in this way.
In January 2021, Bear was arrested after he uploaded a sex tape of himself and Harrison, that he had secretly recorded, to his OnlyFans account. The following year, he was found guilty of voyeurism and disclosing private, sexual photographs and films. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison and given a five year restraining order forbidding contact with Harrison. He served just half of his sentence before he was released from prison.
His actions on social media against Harrison since leaving prison were described investigating officer Detective Constable Swarv Stafin as “not okay”. He told The Sun that it “should not be normalised or accepted” and that the impacts of harassment, including “stress and anxiety”, is “something no one should have to experience”.
Stafin added that Bear “knew very well” that what he was doing was wrong, as he plead guilty to breaching the restraining order. He also paid tribute to Harrison and her “courage and dignity” both in the initial investigation and Bear’s campaign to discredit her.
Following the ordeal, Harrison has set up a new foundation, called the Georgia Harrison Foundation, to tackle the online culture that allows the manosphere to fester. The manosphere is the term given to the culture created by those such as Andrew Tate and HS Tikky Tokky, which preaches about traditional gender roles, the value of ‘alpha’ men and the lack of value of independent women. It hinges on misogynistic views and claims there is a conspiracy to stop men realising the “truth”.
The manosphere has real world consequences. Just last year, the Revenge Porn Helpline recorded 22,275 reports of private images being shared online, which is a rise of 20.9 per cent on the previous year.
Harrison was backed by Labour MP Jess Phillips, who said that what the star had done “takes a courage most people will never be asked to find”. She praised Harrison for working to change the law regarding revenge porn and continuing to fight for women and girls.
Phillips added that the Foundation “understands the real fight” and called the manosphere an “industry that monetises contempt for women and grooms boys to follow”.
