Strictly’s acid-tongued Craig Revel Horwood is renovating his historic £2million, seven-bed mansion, but it seems he has to make do with “more modest” lodgings in the meantime
Strictly Come Dancing star Craig Revel Horwood has revealed the reason why he’s “living in a caravan”. Away from the glitz and glamour of the ballroom, Strictly’s acid-tongued “Mr Nasty” is renovating his historic £2million, seven-bed mansion in King’s Cliffe, Northamptonshire.
Craig, who lives with his partner, Jonathan Myring, bought the 1867 property in 2021 and started the revamp shortly after they moved in. Six months ago, they were in the “demolition stage” and expected to finish in August this year.
In an interview at the time, Craig described how there was “no outdoor walls at all”, simply a roof and second storey held up by poles. He described how he was “living in a one-up, two-down” annex “basically the size of caravan”.
The judge has now addressed his current living situation. However, his temporary lodgings while the work continues are still “more modest” than his main home, according to the Mail’s Richard Eden.
Craig told Richard: “I am living in a caravan at the moment. It’s cheaper than storage.”
Speaking about the refurb to Country and Town House last year, Craig explained that they’d formulated a plan for the project after a year, and then “took another year” to secure planning permission.
He said: “It’s in the demolition stage and then the first bit will begin in a month. I think we’re looking at August next year, which is alarming. I’m just glad something’s happening.”
In September 2025, Craig offered fans a look at his home, sharing snaps of the gutted interior and rubble. Strictly’s Neil Jones said: “One Question, will my room have a bath tub?”
It came after Craig previously showcased the work undertaken on his kitchen. In a post on Instagram, he wrote: “After what feels like a lifetime, the renovations are finally underway.
“Fingers crossed our full house renovation is finished in a fortnight but it might take a smidge longer!”
In other news, Craig recently disclosed that he’d like to see a pro dancer take over as the new host of Strictly, following the departure of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.
Craig indicated that the new hosts could be revealed as soon as “in one month”. Initially, he named Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden, but confessed he didn’t think they would “get the job”.
He told The Sun: “I love Johannes for the job. I think he would be the sweet one. I don’t know how he would get on with me as he just laughs at me.
“I know they are trying people out at the moment. In fact, this week, and I am sure we will find out. I think it is going to be released in one month.”
