Strictly Come Dancing star John Nellis revealed his wife is pregnant in this week’s pre-dance video. The Northern Irish Youtube star and content creator, 33, who is dad to Eli, made the announcement before taking to the dance floor with Katya Jones for a Titanic number.
Speaking to the camera, he said: “The hardest part of my job, and it genuinely breaks my heart, is the amount of time I spend away from family.”
He went on: “I miss my wife more than you can imagine, and my son. And our family’s growing. We’re having another baby in February. I want a big family. I want big Christmases and big parties like I grew up with more than you can imagine.”
John, who married Shannon McMahon, added: “I just genuinely had the most blessed childhood ever.”
And he paid a sweet tribute to his own dad in the clip. “My favourite memory of my dad is more of a feeling, and it’s that we were best friends first, and he’s my dad second, and that’s the truth.
“My mom and dad are the most supportive people. Their moral compass is like so well aligned that it realigns those around them. They’re just good people.”
Johannes Radebe said he had been “moved to tears” after seeing the family bond in the clip. And John was quick to praise his parents once again after his dance, thanking all the watch parties that his pals are having.
While John and Katya’s dance wasn’t without issues – John dropped his professional partner at the end of the routine – they scored an impressive 23 point. “For me, I totally enjoyed it,” Shirley Ballas told the pair.
Craig Revel Horwood wasn’t as positive, scoring the duo a lowly four. Motsi Mabuse was one point higher with five, while both Shirley and Anton Du Buke awarded them an impressive seven.
John admitted before week one on the show that his dancing is so bad people didn’t believe he had signed up for the show.
He said he had to convince his loved ones that the announcement was legit. He said: “They thought it was a joke, then after convincing them, there were lots of hugs. I also have a very large wider family, so there have been lots of ticket requests!”
On his own disbelief about taking part, he continued to say: “I keep laughing in disbelief. I keep realising the magnitude of it and getting a bit nervous. I keep saying to my wife how surreal it all is.
“I keep kind of going, ‘This is mad.’ So, nervous but ridiculously excited.”
And he said we was prepared for judge Craig to “rip me to shreds!”. But he confessed he’s hoping the advice he got from former contestant George Clarke will be enough to get him through the weeks of dancing.
