Strictly Come Dancing has an all-new presenting line-up this year, with Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe replacing stalwarts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman
Strictly Come Dancing’s new hosts Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe face the huge task of replacing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. It’s all change on the BBC show with the new presenting team receiving mixed reviews in their first few weeks.
One of the big milestones for any new Strictly season is the choreographed dance featuring presenters, judges and professional dancers. Self-confessed “newbie” Emma revealed she loved the experience.
But Strictly icon Anton Du Beke pulled her up for “glossing over” his remark about her co-host Josh Widdicombe during an appearance on her BBC Radio 2 show. Emma said she had “the time of my life,” with the performance likened to starring in a classic musical like Grease or West Side Story.
She said: “I’m a newbie, right. I absolutely had the time of my life, but talk about choreography. I felt like I was in a movie. When I watched it back I thought it was like a scene from Grease or West Side Story. It’s amazing.”
Anton then asked: “What character would Josh have played?” Emma laughed and said: “I don’t know,” before she quickly moved the conversation forward.
The long-time judge then quipped: “Glad you glossed over that.”
Speaking shortly before the dance aired (Saturday, September 19), Emma revealed she kept making the same mistake during the dance. The 50-year-old revealed she was struggling to keep her footing in the heels she was wearing, the Daily Express reports.
Emma said: “How many times did I trip over?” Anton joked: “Three or four, if I’m being generous. Oh, we’re going to go again. Why is that? She’s forgotten how to walk.”
The presenter took the comment in good heart, adding: “She’s fallen down the stairs in heels again, so I did trip over quite a few times.”
Meanwhile, Emma’s husband Matt Willis has spoken about the moment he found out his wife had kept a secret diary of all the times he’d lied to her about his drinking.
The diary concerned Matt’s habits, including notes of what he had been drinking, whether he had said he wouldn’t drink and it he had kept his promise. The Busted star is currently sober after overcoming alcohol and drug addictions.
In recent years, Matt has spoken extensively about his experiences on his On The Mend podcast. On a recent episode, he interviewed Michelle Heaton, that he told the former Liberty X singer, who has also previously suffered with an alcohol addiction, about what he’d found after making it to sobriety.
He said “Emma kept a diary towards the end of my drinking of what she saw me drink like, ‘He drunk this today. He drunk this today. He told me he wasn’t going to drink, but he drunk this and now he’s drinking this’.
“And I read this, right? I didn’t ever know this existed for eight years or something. And I read this diary and I was like, ‘This is a quarter of what I was doing’.
“I was so good at hiding it, you know, well, I thought I was. I was so good at hiding it. Like, I had routines, I had things put into place so I’d never be without a drink because I couldn’t be.”
Catch Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One from 6.15pm to 8.35pm this evening (Saturday, October 10).
