Students Spot Lizard In Hostel Food

Hyderabad:Students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) alleged that a lizard was found in the chole curry served for dinner at Manjeera Boys Hostel on Wednesday night. Caretaker Gopi was present, but students said the warden and deputy warden were absent from the hostel office.

“Nearly 50 students were yet to eat when some spotted the lizard and took videos,” a student told DC.

Students said they were reluctant to complain to university authorities, fearing repercussions in hostel matters. They recalled a previous incident when a cockroach was found in food, but the principal and registrar dismissed it as fabricated. “Tired of such defences, many ignored the issue and ate out that night,” a student said, adding that next morning several were seen checking plates for insects.

JNTUH said dinner was served between 7.30 pm and 9 pm, with caretaker and warden present until closing. It claimed some students arrived late and photographed used utensils kept aside for washing. “The visuals supplied are of used utensils with covered tops,” the university said, terming allegations of adulterated food baseless.

It said care was taken during preparation and serving, and the pictures were being circulated with motives “not yet known”. Students confirmed they were in good health but remained wary.
