Away from the TV sets and shows, Loose Women star Sunetra Sarker has endured her fair share of heartbreak and loss
Sunetra Sarker is a TV favourite and no stranger to appearing on TV screens – but what do we know about her life?
The Liverpool-born actress shot to fame on the hit Channel 4 soap Brookside, from 1988 to 1990 as Nisha Batra. Since then, Sunetra has remained booked and busy.
Her other TV credits include Ackley Bridge, a Strictly stint in 2014 and Casualty. She also joined the Loose Women panel in 2021 and appears in the new BBC cosy crime drama The Hairdresser Mysteries.
But away from the TV sets and shows Sunetra has had a dramatic life, including the sad loss of her “very young” ex-husband. Here’s everything we know about her private life.
Sunetra’s ex-husband’s sad death
Sunetra has had two marriages – the first of which ended in divorce. She married Nick Corfield in 2003, and the couple had one child, Noah, together a few years afterwards.
The couple met in a bar while Sunetra was on holiday in Jersey in 1989. The romance fizzled out, but the pair met again 10 years later in Jersey.
Sadly, in July 2026, Sunetra revealed that Nick had died two years prior. Appearing on Gabby Logan’s The Mid Point podcast, the Loose Women star said: “We had really sad news two years ago of Noah’s dad passing away, which was a really big, massive bombshell in our lives.
“He was very young. I don’t even think I’ve still processed Nick’s passing but we then focused a lot on Noah.” Sunetra then shared that she is keeping the memory of her ex Nick “very present” as their son Noah is “worried about forgetting” him.
Sunetra’s marriage to second husband
In 2012, Sunetra started dating Scott Carey. The couple knew each other from college in the 1990s but reconnected after both going through separate divorces.
“It was like a thunderbolt for us both at that reunion and we had such a connection, we knew we’d be together forever,” the actress said.
She added: “We’re like soppy teenagers who leave each other surprise love notes and have such a harmonious relationship – we both feel equally lucky to have found each other.”
Going from strength to strength, the pair made things official and got married in 2018. The actress and company director had two ceremonies: one traditionally British, the other Indian.
Speaking about the big day, she said: “I’m a bit embarrassed that in all our wedding photos I’ve got this big, crazy smile.”
‘Awful’ experience
In 2025, Sunetra revealed that she was struggling to walk after a set of accidents, revealing that she had been in “agony”. On Loose Women she said: “Six weeks ago I sprained my ankle. It was agony. I cannot explain how this hot pain …” Co-star Charlene White asked her: “How did you sprain that one?”
Sunetra said: “I had a dead leg. I was trying to put my foot in a slipper. It’s nothing showbiz. Sorry, it’s not glamorous. I just was old and I couldn’t get my foot in my slipper.”
Sunetra continued: “On my way to physio for said sprained ankle, six weeks after the injury, I’m thinking ‘I’m nearly gonna be able to walk again properly’. On the way, my flip-flop gets caught under the doormat, I trip, my left leg comes out to save my face from hitting the ground and guess what, sprained left ankle [now].”
Referencing her own character from the BBC medical drama, Sunetra continued: “So, now, Dr Zoe Hanna from Casualty is sitting in casualty for six hours being recognised by everyone [asking questions].” She then described the experience as “awful”.
Career first
Sunetra is one of many famous faces appearing in the new BBC cosy crime drama The Hairdresser Mysteries. She stars alongside the likes of Bridget Jones’s Diary icon Sally Phillips, Coronation Street favourite Charlotte Jordan, You actor Ben Castle-Gibb and Corrie’s Wendi Peters.
She plays Wincey Evans and according to Sunetra, the role is a career first as she gets to show off her comedy skills. She said: “This character is the furthest away from anything else I’ve played which was the biggest draw for me.
“I’ve never done comedy before, but I think when you’ve grown up watching comedies and loving comedies, some of it just seeps in. To me, Wincey is an amalgamation of so many different people that I’ve loved over the years and friends of mine. I’ve channeled them all and I’ve brought all those funny bones from them and tried to put it into Wincey.”
Meanwhile Sally Phillips – who plays lead Lily Petal said: “Sunetra Sarker’s comedy chops. She’s not done comedy before. She’s absolutely hilarious – never misses a beat.
“It’s also this mash-up of genres like a cosy crime show meets the Vicar of Dibley, but it’s truly like a televisual jukebox, firing on every cylinder to make you feel good by the end.”
The Hairdresser Mysteries is available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer with episodes also available to watch weekly on Fridays at 2pm on BBC One.
