Former NFL guard Jordan Devey has died at the age of 38.
In the late hours of Thursday night, Devey’s wife Lindsey announced the death of the former player for the Ravens, Patriots, Chiefs, Raiders and Bills.
Devey died by suicide, per a GoFundMe page,
“Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” the post reads. “As they face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Lindsey and their children. The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward without the added stress of immediate expenses.”
Lindsey shared an Instagram post to honor her husband, which included a photo of her leaning over Devey in a hospital bed along with a photo of the couple seemingly on their wedding day. They have four children together.
Devey died on what would have been the couple’s 15th year anniversary, Lindsey shared.
“We have filled the walls of our homes and hearts with countless memories, joys, struggles, and triumphs. We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion,” she wrote. “You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, “we’ll talk soon.” ❤️ Please if you are able, donate to our fund to ease the financial burdens that weigh heavy on our hearts.”
Earlier this year, Devey was named the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Eagle High School Idaho.
The GoFundMe page has a goal of $200,000 and at the time of writing had reached $52,387.
“Jordan Devey was a cherished member of the Eagle community, known for his unwavering dedication to serving others,” the page added. “He was a devoted husband to Lindsey and a loving father to their four children. Jordan spent countless hours volunteering as a coach for his own children’s teams and for the athletes at Eagle High School, where he was deeply loved by the players who saw him as a mentor, role model, and friend. His commitment to uplifting those around him extended far beyond sports, as he faithfully served in his church, offering support, counsel, and friendship to anyone in need.”
Devey went undrafted out of Memphis in 2013 but later signed with the Ravens. He went on to join the Patriots’ practice squad in September of that year and later played six regular-season games in 2014 — the same year the team won the Super Bowl over the Seahawks.
In 2015 he was dealt to the 49ers and was picked up by the Chiefs.
He played in Kansas City for three seasons before finishing his career with the Raiders and Bills in 2021.
