A month after riding high on the success of Karuppu, Suriya looks set to revisit a winning collaboration. The actor will reunite with director TJ Gnanavel, best known for the critically acclaimed Jai Bhim, for his upcoming project, currently referred to as Suriya 48. The film has now found a formidable production house in Hombale Films, the banner that delivered blockbuster franchises like KGF and Kantara.
A powerful reunion with a new backing
The announcement was made earlier this week, adding further momentum to a project that has already generated considerable buzz. With Hombale stepping in, Suriya 48 becomes their second Tamil venture after Raghu Thatha, signalling the banner’s growing interest in the industry.

Kayadu Lohar has been cast as the female lead, while the supporting lineup includes seasoned performers such as Prakash Raj, Yogi Babu, and Elango Kumaravel. The film also reunites Suriya with composer Sai Abhyankkar following their recent collaboration on Karuppu. The technical crew features cinematographer SR Kathir, editor Philomin Raj, and production designer K Kadhir, with B Krithika contributing to the screenplay.
From Jai Bhim to a new chapter
Suriya and TJ Gnanavel’s previous outing, Jai Bhim, remains one of the most talked about films in recent Tamil cinema. Released in 2021, the legal drama saw Suriya play a lawyer inspired by advocate K Chandru and was based on a real life case from the 1990s. The film, which premiered directly on Prime Video, earned widespread acclaim for its storytelling and performances, with Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, and Prakash Raj among the ensemble cast.
The reunion raises expectations, especially given Gnanavel’s reputation for socially rooted narratives and Suriya’s recent choices that balance commercial appeal with strong content.
Meanwhile, the actor is also gearing up for the release of Vishwanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri. Co-starring Mamitha Baiju and Raveena Tandon, the film explores an unconventional romance between a middle-aged man and a much younger woman. Described by the makers as “a heartfelt journey of dreams, emotions, and unexpected love”, the story centres on Suriya’s character Sanjay Vishwanath, which is said to draw inspiration from his iconic role in Ghajini.
With Suriya 48 now officially backed by a major production house and his upcoming release around the corner, the actor appears to be entering another prolific phase in his career. If his reunion with TJ Gnanavel delivers even a fraction of the impact of Jai Bhim, audiences could be in for something truly special.
