Y Ravi Shankar, the prominent producer behind the Pushpa series and Prabhas’ upcoming film Fauzi, has shared insightful observations on the issue. Speaking at an event on Tuesday, he spoke about the phenomenal theatrical run of Suriya’s recent action drama Karuppu. According to the producer, the film achieved a staggering distributor share of Rs 83 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. This outcome far exceeded initial trade estimates. Trade analysts had projected a best-case scenario of Rs 50-60 crore. However, the RJ Balaji directorial smashed those expectations, further solidifying Suriya’s rising star power at the box office.
The Tollywood producer linked this theatrical rise to wider shifts in Tamil Nadu. As Thalapathy Vijay pivots to full-time politics, a natural vacuum has emerged in cinema. While Vijay has filled a void in the political realm, he has left an opening at the top of the film industry. Ravi Shankar believes Suriya is stepping up to claim that spot.
“The public is ready to place Suriya Sir on an exceptionally high pedestal. He is the most eligible star to lead the industry forward,” he said, adding that veteran actor Radhika Sarathkumar shares the same wish for Suriya’s trajectory.
