KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari informed on Friday that the BJP government has decided to allow a CBI probe into a teachers’ recruitment scam in Darjeeling, which is under the authority of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), during the Trinamul Congress-rule.

To allow the CBI probe, Mr Adhikari explained the state government would withdraw its move, made during the TMC-rule, challenging a Calcutta High Court order at the Supreme Court. “Around 400 teachers were appointed illegally in the scam. The Calcutta HC had ordered a CBI probe into it,” he said.

The CM added, “The previous government moved the SC against the case and got a stay on the order in it. I have told state chief secretary Manoj Agarwal that we will exit from the case to pave way for the HC order for a CBI probe to come into effect. Those who were involved in the corruption case will face action.”

He further announced a special inquiry by the chief secretary and municipal affairs secretary into the corruption into water supply under the ₹1200 crore-Amrut project and sought a report from them within seven days. Mr Adhikari ordered the administration to blacklist the agency which was roped in the project.

The CM shared the decisions after a meeting at state secretariat, Nabanna, with Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista and three newly-elected party MLAs from the hills. Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung and his deputy Roshan Giri also attended the meeting.
