SVU Launches IIM-Hyderabad Student Chapter

TIRUPATI: Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) on Tuesday launched the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)-Hyderabad Student Affiliate Chapter.

The chapter was inaugurated by IIT-Hyderabad director and IIM president Prof. B.S. Murty in the presence of SVU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tata Narasinga Rao.

The initiative aims to promote research, innovation and academic activities in the field of materials science and engineering. It is expected to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and industries in advanced materials and metallurgical sciences.

Addressing the programme, Prof. Rao stressed the need for stronger cooperation between universities and industries. He said interdisciplinary research and innovation in advanced materials and metallurgical sciences should be encouraged.

Prof. Murty said advanced materials research and technological innovation would play an important role in addressing future engineering and industrial challenges. He urged students to actively participate in research and knowledge-sharing activities for their academic and professional growth.

Head of the mechanical engineering department at SVU and IIM student coordinator Prof. P. Hema said the chapter would provide a platform for students and researchers to participate in technical and academic activities.

She said the chapter would help organise technical lectures, workshops, seminars and industry interactions, contributing to the growth of Materials Science education at SVU.

IIM Council member and Nuclear Fuel Complex chairman and chief executive Dr. Komal Kapoor, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited chairman and managing director Dr. Narayana Murthy, BrahMos Aerospace director general, CEO and managing director Dr. Jaiteerth R. Joshi, JSW Steel vice-president Dr. Sambandam Manjini, IIM lifetime member Prof. V. Divakar Reddy and others attended the programme.
