Nellore: In a renewed push to improve sanitation and civic standards in the newly formed Markapuram district, authorities have launched an intensive cleanliness and waste management drive aimed at transforming both villages and towns across the region.
The Swachh Patham programme was launched at the Collectorate on Wednesday. The initiative focuses on clearing garbage dumps along village roads, maintaining clean surroundings and ensuring regular sanitation activity.
Officials have been directed to conduct the drive every Wednesday with compulsory participation of public representatives and staff. Field-level monitoring and real-time updates through the PR One app have also been made mandatory to track progress.
The administration has also stepped up focus on scientific waste management in urban areas. Municipal officials have been asked to promote door-to-door garbage collection and spread awareness on waste segregation in line with National Green Tribunal guidelines. The move aims to convert waste into a resource by separating wet and dry waste at source, reducing environmental impact while generating value.
Infrastructure development has also been prioritised. Authorities were asked to fast-track identification of land for sewage treatment plants, particularly in Podili, within a week, while other municipalities were directed to begin groundwork by the end of May.
The district administration has set a target of transforming the region into a “Swachh Markapuram” within the next three months through coordinated execution and public participation.
The directions were issued by district collector M. Vijaya Sunitha during review meetings held at the Collectorate with senior officials in attendance.
