CHENNAI: Expanding the Media and Communications wing of the TVK, the party president C Joseph Vijay on Monday nominated leaders who came in from other parties to various posts like spokespersons, dispelling the prevailing myth that ‘latecomers’ were being side-lined and deprived of responsibilities in the party.
Though some senior former Ministers from the AIADMK continued to remain without any position in the TVK, the party general secretary and water resources minister N Anand had announced on Saturday, the day earmarked for enrolment in the party, when over 1000 members from the AIADMK switched over, that Vijay would soon entrust responsibilities with newcomers from other parties.
Keeping to it, Vijay came out with the announcement of 29 appointments to the media and communications wing, in which prominent former CPI leader C Mahendran, former AIADMK minister S C Vaigai Selvan and prominent former AIADMK leaders Y Jawahar Ali and V Puzhalendi and V P Kalairajan of the DMK were made principal spokespersons.
While the names of long-time TVK supporters like Youtuber Felix Jerald and television personalities like A Sasireka, Thenmozhi Prassana and an ardent acolyte of deceased forest brigand Veerappan, Mugil Veerappan, figure in the list, Americai V Naryanan, a former Congress leader, has also been named as spokesperson.
Vijay said that the new office-bearers of the media and communications wing would work under the guidance of Anand but the recognition given to those who came from other parties after the electoral triumph of the TVK could encourage more defections.
On Monday, AIADMK’s north Chennai district secretary R S Rajesh, who left the party, met some TVK leaders with a view to joining the ruling party. Perhaps he would be formally inducted into the party next Saturday, on August 12.
However, the post of headquarters chief spokespersons would be held by State Ministers C T R Nirmalkumar and A Rajmohan with Minister S Ramesh, J Catharine Pandiyan and K C T Anandajit Mahiya becoming coordinators of the wing.
