With this, she overtook the record for most VMA wins, held for eight years by Beyonce. Taylor Swift now holds the record with 33 total wins at MTV VMAs.
During her acceptance speech, she gave thanks to all her fans and many crew members who helped making the vision behind her video possible. Lastly, she went on to dedicate her video to the late Dolly Parton. She said, “I want to thank and dedicate this award to one person, without whom this wouldn’t be possible. And that person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton.” She continued, “Every other song she wrote, her storytelling was so vivid and so rich. Listening to her songs is like watching the best music video you have ever seen in your life, every single time.”
Taylor Swift also brought out the music video for her song Patient Zero at the MTV Music Awards on Sunday for its official worldwide premiere. Deep-diving into the video, it showcases a bond seemingly brewing between two friends, namely Taylor Swift and Dakota Johnson, courtesy of their mutual ex. All goes well till the narrative takes a massive shift, bringing an unexpected twist towards the end.
Patient Zero is part of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. It was released alongside three other tracks on September 25 including Cleveland, Pink Clouding, and Babylon.
