Shake It Off singer Taylor Swift narrowly missed landing a cameo role in new heist movie, Fuze, when it was filmed on location next to her Wembley gig

Shot around London, the film – starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a chief police superintendent tasked with evacuating the capital after the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb – involved shooting “high stakes” scenes to a backdrop of Swift hits.

Gugu, 43, who made her name in the 2013 film Belle, says: “It was a little bit off-putting. Essentially, the set we had, which was right where the bomb site was, was right next to Wembley Stadium.”

In Fuze, which also stars Theo James, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Sam Worthington and Saffron Hocking, it’s revealed the bomb’s fuse is active and could detonate at any time in the next 48 hours. But its discovery reveals an even more explosive crisis, as the London evacuation is used as a cover for an audacious bank heist.

Loki and Black Mirror actress Gugu says of the bomb scenes, to which her character Chief Superintendent Zuzana Greenfield, is integral: “It was a little bit off-putting. Essentially, the set we had, which was right where the bomb site was, was right next to Wembley Stadium.

“So, we’re doing these really high stakes, really intense scenes about will the bomb go off? Will it? And you’re hearing across the breeze Taylor Swift songs at the end of the day on set, so it was a bit of a challenge!

“I think the sound guys had a bit of difficulty trying to cut her out.”

Gugu, who splits her time between London, Oxfordshire and LA, says of Fuze, which is produced by Stephen Merchant and can be seen in cinemas now: “You think, initially, it’s this World War II unexploded bomb discovered in London race against time. But then there’s kind of a twist and there’s a little bit of a mash up with the heist genre.”

Gugu, the daughter of Black South African doctor, Patrick Mbatha and white British nurse, Anne Raw, was brought up in Oxfordshire after her parents separated when she was one, but remains close to her dad.

The actress, who studied at the acclaimed Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) after winning a scholarship and was appointed an MBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2017 for her services to drama, praises the “incredible cast” of Fuze. She continues: “It’s a real edge of your seat, high stakes action thriller.”

Sounds just like a Taylor Swift gig!
