TIRUPATI: Telugu Desam senior leader and Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy on Friday criticised YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over his recent remarks regarding the deaths of former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, describing the comments as politically motivated and irresponsible.

In a video statement, Somireddy alleged that Jagan was attempting to create suspicion around the 2009 helicopter crash that claimed YSR’s life by linking it to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu after nearly 17 years. He pointed out that both the State and Central governments at the time were led by the Congress party and recalled that senior Congress leader K. Rosaiah had become Chief Minister following YSR’s death.

He said the Congress-led Central government had ordered a CBI inquiry into the helicopter crash based on Rosaiah’s request and that the agency later concluded it was an accident. He questioned how Chandrababu Naidu, who was then in the opposition, could have influenced the investigation.

Referring to Jagan’s remarks about the deaths of YSR, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy and Raja Reddy, Somireddy alleged that the YSRC chief was making accusations without evidence. He said Naidu and YSR had maintained cordial personal relations despite their political rivalry.

The TD MLA also questioned why Jagan Mohan Reddy had remained silent for several years if he had doubts regarding his father’s death. He said Jagan, who served as Chief Minister for five years, had failed to reopen the case or initiate any fresh investigation during his tenure.

Drawing a comparison with the Vivekananda Reddy murder case, Somireddy said Viveka’s daughter Sunitha had continued her legal fight for justice from Pulivendula to Delhi. He alleged that Jagan failed to identify those responsible for the murder despite being in power.

Somireddy further claimed that even several YSRC leaders were uncomfortable with Jagan’s recent remarks. He said people were closely watching political developments and would not believe baseless allegations.
