Sunday may not have been the exact result 19-year-old Blades Brown was looking for — a fourth 54-hole lead squandered — but it ultimately saw him earn what he wanted next: a season full of starts on the PGA Tour.
Brown is well known to this point, partly due to his golfy name and partly due to his impressive game. He turned pro at just 17 and has played on the Korn Ferry Tour much of the last two seasons, occasionally sprinkling in some starts on the PGA Tour. He flashed in moments this summer, never quite getting across the line for a win, but the floor has been extremely high. He’s made 16 of 18 cuts and finished in the top 10 five times.
What that all means is — despite a second-place finish in Sunday’s final KFT event — Brown will be all over your television on the PGA Tour next spring. He’ll still be 19 then, a reminder that he has now set the record for youngest player to earn a Tour card via graduation from the KFT.
Before he truly got into contention this weekend, Brown was asked if his accomplishments arriving at such a young age really resonate with him.
“I mean, a little bit,” he admitted. “One thing I know is I always tell my dad the golf ball doesn’t care how old I am. The golf ball doesn’t know if you’re 60 years old or 19 years old, so I would say that.”
You may hear Brown issue that quote a few more times at the beginning of 2027. He’ll be a teenager until next year’s PGA Championship.
Brown finished 5th in the season-long Korn Ferry Tour race, which means he’ll have decent status when 2027 begins. He may have to stay patient through the early-season tournaments, as 5th on KFT will put him right on the border of alternate status into a handful of the more desired west coast events, like the Phoenix Open. But if we’ve learned anything about him to this point, it’s that he’s very comfy playing a bunch of golf.
In between his 18 KFT starts in 2026, Brown jumped over for 11 starts on the PGA Tour, making nine cuts and finishing in the top 20 seven times. He even earned Special Temporary Membership on Tour for the rest of the season, but he opted to spend more time chasing the path via its feeder tour. What feels most clear from all of that is his floor — it’s very high. What he gets to show us know is what the ceiling looks like.
