HYDERABAD: The ACB arrested Medchal deputy collector Marri Vamsi Mohan for a second time on Thursday, following searches at his residence and those of his alleged benamis. He had been previously arrested on May 22 in a case of disproportionate assets.
The ACB on Thursday alleged that registration officials had found that Mohan used his official powers to forcibly register two expensive flats from two victims in the names of his alleged benami persons.
Mohan had previously worked as the revenue divisional officer Serilingampally and is currently a special grade deputy collector in the urban land ceiling (ULC) section of Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
In the wake of the evidence found in the houses of the benami persons and complaints of forced collection, the ACB officials were preparing to arrest Vamsi after completing official procedures and producing before the special court.
On Thursday, the ACB said, its officials during extensive searches at a luxury flat owned by Mohan at Gachibowli along the houses of his alleged benims and reportedly seized ₹56 lakh unaccounted cash at his place.
On May 22, the ACB had searched over eight locations belonging to Mohan and collected key documents on alleged land transactions involving government land in Serilingampally and Abdullapurmet as well as reportedly transferring eight acres of land in the name of his uncle Vijay Bhaskar.
The document value of his assets unearthed in the May 22 raid was estimated to be ₹6.22 crore.
The ACB placed the value of assets unearthed on Thursday and on May 22 at between ₹100 crore and ₹200 crore.
The May 22 raids on Mohan had shed light on the several assets reportedly owned by him and his associates, including 19 open plots valued at ₹4.46 crore by government value, an independent house at NGOs Colony in Vanasthalipuram and two flats located at Manikonda and Masjidbanda, collectively valued at approximately ₹1.12 crore.
