Hyderabad: Telangana has emerged as one of the five Indian states to be classified under the ‘Upper-Middle Income’ category based on the World Bank’s per capita income benchmark.
The World Bank classifies countries with per capita income less than $1,175 as low-income nations, while those with per capita income between $1,175 and $4,635 are classified as lower-middle-income and those above $14,375 are high-income.
Delhi topped the list with a per capita income of $6,217, followed by Karnataka ($5,579). Telangana secured the third position with $5,407, while Tamil Nadu ($5,329) and Gujarat ($4,734) occupied the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. All five states have surpassed the World Bank’s minimum benchmark for the category.
