Telangana Basketball Body Officer Booked for Harassing Minor Player

The complainant, mother of the victim, stated that the incidents occurred on multiple occasions during basketball tournaments held between February 2024 and June 2026.

During a tournament at Utnoor in Jogulamba Gadwal district, the accused allegedly made vulgar hand gestures towards the girl and other female players and passed sexually coloured remarks. The complainant alleged that Prudveeshwar Reddy repeatedly humiliated the girl by making comments about her body and caste during the tournaments, including the one held at a sports academy in Madhapur.
The complaint also stated that during another tournament in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, the victim when questioned his behavior, the accused allegedly questioned the girl’s participation and continued to harass her with obscene and abusive language.

Interpol imposter arrested in Medak

An impostor who posed as an Interpol officer and submitted a land‑related grievance to the Medak district collector has been arrested by Medak police.

Bukka Santosh allegedly produced a fake ID card with his photograph citing himself as an “Interpol & Intelligence special officer” and, along with his friend, approached district collector Prathima Singh on a land dispute. During questioning, Santosh revealed that he worked with an NGO. A case of cheating, forgery and fabrication has been registered against him, DSP Prasanna Kumar said on Tuesday.

Police said Santosh, a resident of Kothapet, along with Srinath, claimed to be Interpol officers before the collector and displayed two fake ID cards. Collector Prathima suspected the claim and alerted DSP Prasanna Kumar, who arrested Santosh and Srinath late on Monday night.

Cloth merchant hacked to death in Saidabad

A 38‑year‑old cloth merchant was hacked to death by his rival in Singareni Colony, Saidabad police said on Tuesday.

The deceased, Mohammed Fasi Aamer, a resident of Singareni Colony, was returning home after dropping his daughter at a madrasa around 11.30 am when the accused, Suman alias Raju, intercepted his bike and attacked him with a coconut chopper, inflicting 38 injuries before fleeing.

Locals rushed Aamer to the Osmania General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Aamer’s father Haseeb Ahmed said his son had earlier worked as an autorickshaw driver before starting a cloth business 11 years ago. He was married and had eight children. Arif, a relative, said Aamer had returned from Mumbai with new stock at 6.30 am.

Saidabad SHO M. Chandra Mohan said preliminary investigation suggested financial disputes with rivals might be the motive. Police are verifying Aamer’s criminal history.

The police Clues teams collected evidence at the crime scene. Senior police officers rushed to the spot, additional forces were deployed and interior roads barricaded as a preventive measure. The victim’s body was handed over to his family after post‑mortem.

A murder case has been registered and three special teams formed to trace the accused. Two persons have been detained for questioning.

Shia community takes part in Alam procession

The Shia Muslim community took part in the ‘Alam’ procession to mark Arbaeen, the 40^th ortieth day of mourning after Ashura commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

The procession began at Dar‑ul‑Shifa, passed through the Old City and concluded at Bibi‑ka‑Alawa.

Shia leader Mir Hyder Ali Jaffery said, “In Islamic culture, 40 days is the traditional period of mourning. It marks when the surviving members of Husayn’s family, after being held captive in Damascus, returned to visit his grave in Karbala.”

Charity events were organised in Shia‑dominated areas, with food arranged for participants and passers‑by. Congregational prayers were held at several places in the city. Large numbers of the faithful across the world also participated in Arbaeen processions.

Techie duped of ₹25.85 lakh in cyber fraud

Cyberabad cybercrime police registered a case after a 40‑year‑old software engineer from Kondapur lodged a complaint that he was cheated of ₹25.85 lakh in an online investment fraud through a fake trading application and WhatsApp groups promising extraordinary stock market returns.

The victim was added to a WhatsApp group that claimed affiliation with a securities firm. Administrators encouraged members to download a trading app and complete KYC formalities, promising assured profits.

He was guided by persons identifying themselves as Ananya Kulkarni and Prof. Gul Tekchandini, who claimed expertise in trading. Initially, he invested ₹20,000 and was allowed to withdraw ₹3,000. Over the following weeks, he transferred multiple amounts, totalling ₹25.88 lakh. The app displayed virtual profits exceeding ₹1.17 crore, encouraging further investment, including in a supposed block deal.

When he attempted to withdraw, the fraudsters demanded an upfront commission, disabled withdrawal options and stopped responding. Realising the app was fraudulent, he lodged a complaint.

Cyberabad cybercrime police booked a case and launched an investigation into the app, WhatsApp accounts and bank accounts used in the scam.

Man cheated of ₹15.18 lakh in online investment scam

Cyberabad cybercrime police booked a case after a city resident was cheated of ₹15.18 lakh in an online investment scam that used fake endorsements of national leaders to lure him into a bogus trading platform.

According to the 60‑year‑old complainant, he came across a social media advertisement promoting stock market investments supposedly backed by the leaders. He registered and received calls from persons claiming to represent the firm, who persuaded him to invest repeatedly, initially showing small returns to gain his confidence.

Later, the fraudsters claimed his investment had generated crores in profits and demanded an additional ₹25 lakh as a processing fee to withdraw the amount. Realising he was duped, the victim approached police, reporting his loss of ₹15.18 lakh. Cyberabad cybercrime police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Cybercrime DCP K. Pushpa said fraudulent advertisements are increasingly appearing on social media, targeting all age groups. She explained that scams are generally built around four emotional triggers — greed, fear, urgency and lust. “Greed is exploited by promising extraordinary returns. Fear is used in scams such as digital arrests. Fraudsters create urgency to pressure victims into transferring money, and in other cases exploit lust by luring victims into compromising situations before demanding payments,” she said.

Pushpa added that fraudsters constantly adapt to current trends, tailoring pitches around government schemes, shopping festivals or bonus offers to appear genuine. “They closely study public trends and use names of prominent personalities or initiatives to gain credibility. Citizens should verify every investment opportunity through official sources and avoid transferring money based solely on social media advertisements or unsolicited calls,” she cautioned.

Police save man after self-immolation attempt in Warangal

A man who attempted self-immolation was rescued by police following a prompt response by personnel on patrol in the Warangal police commissionerate limits on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at Sri Sainath Venture near Ammavaripeta X Road at around 6.45 pm. According to police, constables Sampath and Govardhan, who were on routine patrol, noticed Merugup Pawan, a resident of Karimabad, allegedly pouring petrol on himself and setting himself on fire.

The constables immediately rushed to the spot, attempted to douse the flames and alerted Madikonda inspector Pulyala Kishan.

Inspector Kishan, along with sub-inspector Jakkula Rajababu, ASI Mahipal Reddy and other police personnel, reached the spot and shifted the injured man in a 108 ambulance to MGM Hospital, Warangal, for treatment.

Local residents appreciated the prompt response of the police personnel.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

Forest official suspended over assault of Adivasi youth

Kaleshwaram circle chief conservator of forests Dr B. Prabhakar on Tuesday placed under suspension Laxminarayana, deputy range officer of Kotapalli section and in-charge forest range officer of Indhanpalli in Jannaram division in connection with the alleged assault of five Adivasi youth.

The action follows an incident on August 2 when the five youth, all residents of Naikapuguda village in Indhanpalli, had allegedly gone fishing inside the Kawal Tiger Reserve. Forest staff took the youth into custody and later released.

A video purportedly showing forest officer Laxminarayana assaulting the Adivasi youth had later been circulated widely on social media.

According to the suspension order, Laxminarayana failed to report the incident to higher authorities in time, amounting to a violation of Rule 3(1) and 3(2) of the Telangana Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, and the Forest Code.

The suspension order stated that, after examining the available material and considering the circumstances of the case, the competent authority found it necessary to place the officer under suspension pending further proceedings.

Woman Trapped in Moving Lift Dies at Chandanagar Apartment, 3 Booked

A 43-year-old woman died after she got trapped between a moving lift and the entrance at Annapurna Enclave, Chatwaz Mansion Apartment, in Chandanagar on Tuesday. Police registered a case against the lift technician, members of the apartment association and the lift maintenance company, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s husband D Srinivas, a 46-year-old security guard, the couple went to the apartment to visit his uncle who was recovering from a head injury.

After reaching the ground floor, the complainant pressed the lift button and entered the lift when the doors opened. Even as his wife was stepping inside, with one foot already in the lift, the lift started moving upwards before the doors even completely closed.

The victim became trapped between the lift and the entrance, suffering severe injuries to her waist and other parts of her body before collapsing unconscious.

Hearing their cries for help, apartment residents rushed to the spot, rescued the woman and shifted her to a private hospital in Chandanagar, where doctors declared her dead.

The complainant alleged that lift repair work was underway at the time of the accident. He claimed that technician Anil Kumar carried out the repairs without switching off the main power supply or placing any caution or warning boards to alert residents.

He alleged that the negligence of the technician, apartment association members Ram Reddy, Yogender and Venkat Reddy, along with the management of Johnson Elevators, failed to ensure residents’ safety, leading to the fatal accident.

Inter Student Nose Fractured in Ragging at Kothapet Centre

A 17-year-old intermediate first-year student of Physics Wallah Vidyapeeth’s Kothapet coaching centre suffered a fractured nose after being assaulted by senior students near his college following a dispute related to a college fest. Chaitanyapuri police registered a case against the senior students as well as the college management under the BNS and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997.

According to the complaint, the seniors abused the student, attempted to attack him inside the college premises and later assaulted him near the college by punching him repeatedly. The attack left the student with a fractured nose. He was shifted to a private hospital for treatment, where doctors advised that surgery would be required for the injury.

The complainant also alleged negligence on the part of the college management, claiming it failed to prevent the harassment despite the incident involving students on the campus. Seeking legal action against both the accused seniors and those responsible for the institution’s supervision, the complainant approached the police. Chaitanyapuri police said investigation was underway and all aspects of the incident are being examined.
