Hyderabad:Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday strongly rebutted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent suggestion that the Modi government should “take inspiration from Rajiv Gandhi” to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill. He accused the Congress of hypocrisy over its handling of women’s issues.
Rao pointed to the Rajiv Gandhi government’s parliamentary dominance in the 1980s — when the party held a majority of more than 400 seats — and said that record shows Congress did not use its mandate to enact the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Rao said the Rajiv Gandhi government used its overwhelming majority to overturn the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Shah Bano case, thereby denying a divorced Muslim woman maintenance that the court had ordered. “This exposes the real record of the Congress on women’s rights,” Rao said.
He asserted that for decades the Congress had delayed, blocked, and defeated efforts to enact women’s reservation. “Today, its leaders have no moral right to lecture Prime Minister Narendra Modi on women’s empowerment,” Rao added.
In a separate statement, Rao condemned the alleged illegal arrests of ‘go rakshaks’ and party workers, demanding strict action against those violating cow protection laws and engaging in illegal cow slaughter ahead of Bakrid. He said the police should immediately withdraw cases filed against those trying to protect cows and cancel bindovers imposed on them.
Rao warned that if the arrested activists were not released immediately, the BJP would launch a statewide agitation. He said cow protection is an integral part of Hindu life and that no cow slaughter in the name of festivals would be tolerated.
Meanwhile, film actor Manohar, senior actor Sharath, senior actress Padmarekha, and film cell member Pujitha joined the BJP at the party office in the presence of Rao. BJP film cell co-convener Vaibhav Surya said many artists were being attracted to the party because of its patriotic ideology and development-focused politics
RSS Telangana warns of legal action over misinformation campaign linking its functionaries with Bandi Sanjay in POSCO case
Hyderabad:The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Telangana unit has strongly objected to what it described as a misinformation campaign against the organisation and its workers, linking it with the Pocso case filed against Sai Bageerath, son of Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Telangana sanghchalak Barla Sundar Reddy warned that legal action would follow if false propaganda continued.
The statement released by its regional publicity secretary Katta Rajagopal said that some groups and media outlets were dragging RSS workers and the organisation into the controvery and attempting to malign them by specifically naming certain activists.
RSS Telangana said such allegations were unfounded and condemned attempts to damage the reputation of the organisation and its workers through misleading reports.
The organisation also clarified that it has no role in the internal affairs of the BJP. It asked media organisations should refrain from spreading false news and warned that those continuing such claims would face legal consequences.
