WARANGAL: The Centre will invite tenders within the next three weeks for the construction of the main terminal building at the Warangal (Mamnoor) Airport, announced Union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on Tuesday, marking a major milestone in the long-pending project.
The announcement followed a meeting between Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Union minister in New Delhi to review the project’s progress.
Addressing a joint press conference, the two leaders said the Centre and the state government were working in close coordination to ensure the airport is inaugurated on June 2, 2028.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the Warangal Airport would be a major milestone in Telangana’s development. He assured that the state government would extend all necessary support to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. He said the airport would boost industrial growth, tourism and commercial activity across Warangal and north Telangana.
Ram Mohan Naidu said the terminal building would be designed in the Kakatiya architectural style, reflecting the region’s cultural and historical heritage. He said the Centre was expediting all necessary procedures to keep the project on schedule.
The Union minister alleged that the project had been delayed during the previous BRS government due to inadequate cooperation in land acquisition and statutory clearances. He said the present state government had handed over nearly 700 acres required for the airport and was extending full cooperation for its execution.
Highlighting the Centre’s focus on strengthening aviation infrastructure, Naidu said that since the NDA government assumed office, more than 90 airports had been constructed or upgraded across the country. He said the expansion of aviation infrastructure was an important part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
