Hyderabad: The Telangana government would undertake a survey of unemployed youth aged between 18 and 35 years in rural areas for the first time to create a database that could be used for providing employment and skill-development opportunities.
The panchayat raj and rural development (PR&RD) department will collect details of the unemployed youth through panchayat secretaries via field surveys in all 12,760 villages and upload the information online.
The exercise would be completed within a week, according to the instructions issued to panchayat secretaries, official sources said on Thursday.
The government directed the collectors of all districts to ensure the survey was completed within the deadline in their respective districts
Panchayat secretaries have been asked to collect the names, personal details and educational qualifications of unemployed youth and enter the information on the Telangana e-panchayat website.
The data will have to be verified by the respective panchayat secretaries before being submitted.
The government plans to use the information to formulate targeted employment schemes, particularly through the Employment Generation and Marketing Mission (EGMM) and other government programmes.
The move assumes significance in the wake of efforts to expand employment opportunities for rural youths in the private sector.
The EGMM recently held a meeting with representatives of corporate companies, who reportedly expressed willingness to recruit youth from rural areas.
Based on the database, the government plans to identify the skill requirements and provide suitable vocational training to unemployed youths before facilitating their placement in private companies.
The government is also preparing to implement the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme aimed at promoting self-employment among unemployed youth belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minority communities.
The scheme, which has been awaiting implementation since April 2025, is expected to be launched on November 19.
Over 16 lakh unemployed youth applied online for the scheme in response to the notification issued by state government in April 2025.
Under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, beneficiaries will be provided financial assistance in the form of subsidies ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹4 lakh to establish self-employment units or small businesses.
The government is expected to use the wider unemployment database to identify eligible youth and align them with employment, skill-development and self-employment programmes.
