HYDERABAD: BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy, alleging that he has “destroyed” the state’s education sector and is resorting to diversionary politics by proposing to lower the minimum age for contesting elections from 25 to 21.
Speaking at the state BJP office, Rao claimed the proposal was intended to distract Gen Z from the Congress government’s failures and unfulfilled promises. He said the Constitution’s framers, led by Dr B.R. Ambedkar, set the minimum age at 25 to ensure legislators have adequate experience, and dismissed the CM’s move as a political act of deception.
Rao challenged the Congress to prove its seriousness about youth leadership by replacing Mallikarjun Kharge with a younger national president, contrasting that with the BJP’s appointment of Nitin Nabin. He accused the state government of destroying the education sector from high school level up to universities.
Highlighting student grievances, Rao said nearly 20 lakh students are affected by non‑release of about ₹12,000 crore in fee reimbursement dues, forcing colleges to withhold original certificates.
He warned of a deep crisis across 17 public universities facing fund and faculty shortages, and alleged that the promised ₹1,000 crore for Osmania University has not been released, leaving teachers without salaries and retirement benefits.
Rao listed a catalogue of broken pre‑election promises, including two lakh government jobs, ₹4,000 monthly unemployment allowance, Vidya Bharosa cards, free scooters for girl students, 75 per cent local reservation in private jobs, a Youth Commission and an Employment Support System, and said these pledges have “vanished into thin air.”
He demanded the CM take moral responsibility, relinquish the education portfolio and hand it to young Congress MLA Yashaswini Reddy if sincere. Rao also paid tributes to Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary and urged the government to align policies with the former president’s ideals.
He unveiled a book titled Sriman Bhagavad Gita, co‑authored by Prof. Mallikarjun and Sujatha. BJP MLAs Paidi Rakesh Reddy and Payal Shankar, state secretary Koppu Bhasha, ST Morcha president Ravi Naik, Minority Morcha president Jagmohan Singh, and party media in‑charge N.V. Subhash were present.
