Hyderabad:Telangana will study the functioning of ex-servicemen corporations in other states after a proposal to establish a dedicated unit for Telangana was placed before Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Director of Sainik Welfare Brig. N.R. Babu (Retd.) and the Chief Secretary on Wednesday. Brig. Babu said the proposed corporation could help coordinate welfare measures, create employment opportunities, support rehabilitation and provide organised security services for ex-servicemen in the state.
The Chief Secretary directed officials to undertake a detailed study of similar corporations operating in other states, covering their organisational structure, financial model, operational procedures and implementation mechanism, before submitting a report to the government for further consideration.
During the meeting, the Sainik Welfare Director also sought an early meeting of the State Sainik Board, chaired by the Chief Minister. The Chief Secretary assured that steps would be taken to obtain the Chief Minister’s approval and convene the meeting at the earliest.
Issues relating to house sites, housing security and earmarking a share of houses under the Indiramma Housing Scheme for ex-servicemen, Veer Naris (war widows) and eligible families were also raised. The Chief Secretary said the government would examine these issues sympathetically and coordinate with the concerned departments to address them. Other welfare, employment, housing and administrative issues concerning ex-servicemen were also discussed during the meeting.
