Adilabad:After the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) was damaged in the Monday fire incident, people in Adilabad and adjoining areas are likely to face tough time in getting neonatal care for their premature babies and those suffering from ailments.
Addressing the critical requirement, Adilabad district medical health officer Dr Porika Sadhana said they are readying a temporary SNCU ward in the Critical Care Ward in the RIMS premises to treat the newborn premature babies and babies with health issues as the construction of the new ward takes time.
Currently, she said doctors are treating the newborn babies at the Pediatric ICU as the hospital does not have a functional neonatal care ward.
The health official said the hospital will soon get a new structure for the SNCU.
Though the RIMS got 17 babies admitted to private hospitals after the fire incident, Sadhana said they are not sending the newborn babies to private hospitals and are taking care of them in the pediatric ICU ward at RIMS itself.
She said doctors perform an average of 15-20 deliveries per day to pregnant women admitted at RIMS, and the number sometimes goes up to 500 per month.
