Tess Daly’s next job after quitting Strictly Come Dancing has been ‘revealed’ – and it follows in her ex husband Vernon Kay’s footsteps as well as those of a former Strictly star
After quitting Strictly Come Dancing last year, Tess Daly is said to be following in the footsteps of her ex-husband for the next stage of her career.
Tess, 57, is said to be heading to the airwaves for a show with Magic Radio. This would be her first role since she announced she was leaving Strictly Come Dancing after 21 years on the BBC show.
Her ex Vernon Kay is already a radio star as he currently hosts a daytime show on BBC Radio 2. The pair were married for 23 years, until revealing they had split in May this year. Former Strictly star Fleur East, who was a contestant on the show and then hosted spin-off It Takes Two, has a breakfast show on Hits Radio.
A source told The Sun: “Tess is loved by millions of Strictly fans across the country. She has a trusted voice and bosses are keen to give her a prime slot at the station.”
The publication suggested that a “prime slot” could mean she ends up going head to head with Vernon, as he hosts the mid-morning show for Radio 2, starting at 9:30am. He took over the show from Ken Bruce in 2023.
Ken Bruce has since moved to Greatest Hits Radio, which is owned by Bauer Media Audio UK, the same company that owns Magic Radio and Hits Radio, where Fleur works. Fellow former Strictly and It Takes Two star Zoe Ball has also taken up a role at Greatest Hits Radio, as she was recently announced as a new weekday presenter.
Tess’ reported move to radio comes after a nearly three decade career on television. She first hosted a show in 1999 when she worked on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast as the host of their Find Me A Model competition.
She went on to host the National Television Awards coverage for ITV2 in 2002 and then took over for Ulrika Jonsson on the channel’s makeover show Home On Their Own.
But her biggest break came in 2004, when she joined Bruce Forsyth as the host for the BBC’s brand new dance show, Strictly Come Dancing. Tess remained on the show until 2025, when she and co-host Claudia Winkleman decided to leave at the same time.
Claudia has since gone on to host her own talk show, The Claudia Winkleman Show, which airs on the BBC when The Graham Norton Show is off air. Meanwhile, Emma Willis, Josh Widdecombe and former Strictly pro dancer Johannes Radebe have taken over as the hosts of Strictly.
The last time there were three hosts was back in 2013, when Bruce, Tess and Claudia all hosted the show together. They started hosting as a trio in 2010 and continued until Bruce retired following the 2013 season.
The Mirror contacted Tess Daly’s reps and the press team at Bauer Media Audio UK for comment.
