Texas A&M G feels snubbed, motivated by Preseason All-SEC selection

Texas A&M’s basketball program is in good shape under coach Bucky McMillan, who enters his second season with plenty of momentum after leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament in Year 1, a run powered by a roster built almost entirely through the transfer portal, especially senior forward Rashaun Agee.

Losing a majority of the 2025-2026 roster, McMillan landed seven key transfer portal additions, and after dealing with issues at guard last season, the addition of Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game during his one season with the Wildcats, is nearly impossible to stop in the paint as one of the best slashers in the country who consistently gets to the foul line.

Poised to lead the Aggies in scoring, Texas A&M’s revamped roster returns veteran forwards Mackenzie Mgbako and Zach Clemence, while former Texas big man Jamie Vinson is one of the roster’s rising players, given his size and athleticism.

Haggarty is now surrounded by a better cast of shooters compared to his time at Kansas State, knowing that fellow transfers Tyshawn Archie and Jalen Reese, combined with Texas transfer Jordan Pope and freshman Neiko Mundey, can all shoot a high percentage from beyond the arc, while senior guard Rylan Griffen’s pending eligibility also adds reliable 3-point shooting.

Before Bucky McMillan, PJ Haggarty, and Mackenzie Mgbako speak to the media on Wednesday during SEC Media Days, Haggarty spoke to the media on Tuesday and was asked about being the lone Texas A&M player named to the Preseason All-SEC Teams, making the third team.

“Any recognition is a blessing obviously. Do I agree with it? No. But that’s their opinion.”

“I think I’m the best player, but they have their own opinion.”

Haggarty is clearly motivated to prove he belongs among the SEC’s top players and is on the right path, given Bucky McMillan’s scheme, which fits his skill set. Texas A&M will kick off the 2026-2027 season against Alabama State on Tuesday, November 3.
