Texas softball won’t play archrival Oklahoma in the SEC Tournament after all.

Georgia, the tournament’s No. 9 seed, stunned the top-ranked Sooners 10-5 in Thursday’s final quarterfinal game at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky. That means the, well, underdog Bulldogs will face fourth-seeded Texas (40-10) in an SEC Tournament semifinal Friday at approximately 6:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face either second-seeded Alabama or third-seeded Florida in Saturday’s SEC Tournament championship game.

Georgia (38-17) trailed Oklahoma 5-0 after two innings but exploded for five runs in the fourth and five more runs across the sixth and seventh innings to knock off the tournament favorites.

Texas opened the SEC Tournament with a 6-0 win over Ole Miss (34-24) Thursday behind ace pitcher Teagan Kavan, who gave up just two hits and struck out nine batters in her fourth shutout win of the season.

Earlier this season, Texas beat Georgia 2-1 in an SEC series in Athens, Ga. The Longhorns outscored Georgia by a cumulative 15-12 in the tightly contested series.

Texas Longhorns infielders Jaycie Nichols (24), Vivianna Martinez (23), Leighann Goode (43), and Katie Stweart (20) meet in the infield during the game against Arkansas at Red & Charline McCombs Field on Thursday, April 30, 2026 in Austin. (Aaron E. Martinez/Austin American-Statesman)
