Hyderabad: Computer science and IT-related programmes recorded the highest seat allotments in the TG Eapcet engineering first-phase counselling released on Friday, reflecting students’ continued interest despite the purported threat of developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
AI, computer engineering, computer science and engineering (networks), and robotics and artificial intelligence registered 100 per cent seat allotment.
Among core branches, 86 per cent ECE seats were allocated, while civil, mechanical and allied courses recorded 80 per cent. The other engineering programmes, including chemical engineering, geomatics, agricultural engineering, and food technology, saw all seat allotted.
According to the technical education department data, only six candidates from the 1 to 100 rank participated in the counselling and secured seats. Another 47 candidates from the 101-500 rank range participated and got seats.
Overall, 88,510 candidates exercised web options and 79,891 were allotted, leaving 8,162 seats vacant. As many as 35,402 candidates secured different allotments from the mock allotment (change of college/branch). However, 8,619 candidates failed to get a seat as they exercised a limited number of web options.
A total of 6,335 candidates have secured allotment under the economically weaker section quota. Overall, 87 colleges, including eight universities and 78 private engineering colleges secured 100 per cent admissions.
