TGSRTC Union Elections Begin after Nearly a Decade-long Gap

Hyderabad: After nearly a decade-long gap, the election to elect a recognized union in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is underway from Friday morning.

The corporation has made elaborate security for the smooth conduct of the election at 115 polling booths across all the RTC depots in the State.

As many as 35,000 workers are expected to exercise their vote during the polling in which 12 unions are in the fray. The main contest is mainly between the major unions – the Employees Union, Telangana Mazdoor Union, National Mazdoor Union, and Telangana RTC workers, among others formed alliances. These unions were backed by the ruling Congress, left parties, BRS and BJP.

More than 35,000 workers, 14,514 are conductors, 13,769 are drivers, 4,207 are garage staff, and 2,409 are others. The maximum number of voters is in the Greater Hyderabad zone with 13,797 people, followed by Karimnagar zone with 11,392, Hyderabad zone with 9,303, head office with 274, and bus body unit at Miyapur with 133.

As there are more voters in Greater Hyderabad Zone, the corporation has set up 32 polling booths, 38 in Hyderabad zone, and 45 in Karimnagar zone. The results will be declared on October 17.
