Saturday Night Live has always been uneven. It’s just the nature of it. Rarely does SNL string together a show’s worth of noteworthy sketches, much less two in a row. But there’s one segment that hits way more than it misses.
Weekend Update has been the most reliably trenchant arm of SNL since it began. Colin Jost and Michael Che have been literal anchors for laughs, helming the Weekend Update desk for 11 years. Here are their 10 best jokes so far this season.
Duke of York, No More
The most recent episode had a great joke at the expense of British royal family member/pervert Prince Andrew.
“Britain’s Prince Andrew announced that, after a discussion with King Charles about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, he will stop using his royal title ‘Duke of York’ and instead will go by ‘The King of Quinceañeras.’”
Jost Takes Aim At Biden
“Trump deserves credit, I have to say, for brokering the ceasefire in Gaza, but I’m slightly skeptical since President Biden also negotiated a ceasefire in Gaza nine months ago. Remember that? No? Well, neither does Biden.”
”You Can Tell Trump Wrote the Plan Himself”

The first episode this season had a great sight gag delivered by Colin Jost when he said “Israel and Hamas have tentatively agreed to President Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza. And you could tell Trump wrote the plan himself.”
Then the over the shoulder image cuts from a map of Israel to a parody of Trump’s notorious birthday note to Jeffrey Epstein.
The Jost To Jigsaw Connection
“The Trump administration is also rolling out videos at airports in which Kristi Noem will blame Democrats for flight delays related to the government shutdown.” Then Jost said “Let’s take a look” before cutting to a video of the puppet Jigsaw from the Saw films saying “I want to play a game.”
Che At His Best
Zohran Mamdani got a huge cheer when Michael Che mentioned him during the season premiere. Che then demonstrated that he’s often at his best during the most childish of jokes.
Che’s Steak Nuggets

“Arby’s announced that they are adding a new item to their menu: steak nuggets! Although, you can make your own steak nuggets by eating a bunch of Arby’s.”
Che Goes After Trump’s Silver Dollar
“The U.S. Treasury is planning to release a silver dollar with President Trump’s face on it. And then, on the other side, he has Harriet Tubman in a headlock.”
Jost On Che’s Banned Book

Colin Jost and Michael Che always shine when they make each other the punchline. This time it was Jost’s turn.
“A new report of American school districts finds that the most banned book in America is A Clockwork Orange. In close second, Michael Che’s Guide to Drawing Muhammad.”
After a laugh from the audience, Jost then pointed at Che with his pencil and said “Get him!”
Trump, Epstein and Jost

Michael Che gives as good as he gets, of course.
“OpenAI has updated its video-generating app Sora to allow users to create cameos of themselves in videos. And, they’re pretty realistic. I mean, I made this one before the show.”
Che throws to that famous clip of best pals Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein laughing together at a party. As Trump points to an offscreen woman, Colin Jost comes dancing into frame as though he’s a partygoer. He even doubles in laughter at the same time Epstein does.
Che on Jane Goodall’s Death
Remember when we said Che’s at his best earlier? Here you go.
