Nani’s latest release, The Paradise, posted healthy numbers over the weekend. The film got off to a flying start, registering collections of Rs 109.00 crore (India gross) and Rs 92.10 crore (India net) over four days. This pushed the worldwide gross collections to Rs 138.25 crore in four days. However, the collections of the Srikanth Odela directorial dipped significantly on Day 5 (first Monday), as the film posted Rs 5 crore (India net).
The Paradise collections on Day 5
The Paradise posted Rs 5 crore (India net) on Day 5 (Monday), a huge drop compared to Day 4’s Rs 15.70 crore (India net). According to box-office tracker Sacnilk, the Nani-starrer suffered a 68.2% drop from Sunday’s collections. The Telugu belt seems to be the major contributor to the action entertainer, with Rs 4.10 crore. The Hindi and Tamil versions registered a meagre Rs 0.75 lakh and Rs 0.15 lakh, respectively, on Monday. Overall, the total collections for five days of The Paradise stood at Rs 97.10 crore (India net).
The Paradise overseas collections
Overseas, too, The Paradise started off well, with cumulative overseas gross collections of approximately Rs 29.25 crore ($2.95M–$3.02M) over four days. However, on Monday (Day 5), the Nani-starrer witnessed a dent, collecting only Rs 0.75 crore. This took the film’s total overseas gross to Rs 30.00 crore for five days and its overall worldwide gross collection to Rs 144.85 crore for five days.
Litmus test for The Paradise
According to a trade analyst, Monday’s drop in collections was due to mixed reviews. The film withstood the weekend but faltered on its first Monday. However, with no big-ticket films arriving next weekend, the makers of The Paradise are hoping for some redemption at the box office. Earlier, many predicted that the film could face an unprecedented box-office challenge after receiving mixed reviews. Despite this, Nani proved that he has the star power to pull audiences to the theatres. Nonetheless, the film faces a litmus test at the box office this week.
