A star of The Voice was diagnosed with a brain tumour – days after the final. Winner Ava Mannings has revealed that she subsequently underwent major surgery following her diagnosis.
For the first time in almost two years, the singer, known professionally as AVA, returned to social media to share her scar following the operation and informed fans why she “disappeared”. Ava, who was 21 at the time of her win, was coached to victory by McFly singers, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones.
The 23-year-old said: “Hello, I’m sure this is a little hard for me to say, I’m not sure how to put it into words. So unfortunately, Miss Ava here was diagnosed with a brain tumour back in October 2024, about a week after everyone found out that I had won The Voice. So that’s why I disappeared so quickly.
“Yeah, I’m not going to get into that whole experience because it’s still something that, you know, it’s quite life-changing.” She added: “I went through some major surgery and I managed to get a very positive result from the surgery.”
AVA later confirmed that she would be making a return to the music industry after overcoming the terrifying health battle. She said: “So catch me on a journey that I had no idea how to experience.
“I don’t really know what to say because obviously this is quite a hard video for me to make, but I’m back, so watch out, everyone.” Her post, which has been liked thousands of times was soon flooded with messages of support. One read: “Yes Ava! Excited to hear what’s to come. You’re a complete inspiration.”
Danny Jones gushed: “Avaaaa,” alongside a red heart emoji. “Aww it’s so lovely to see your face!! Sending you so much love,” said another social media user. Tom Fletcher’s wife, Giovanna, commented: “So much love for you, Ava.”
Another social media user penned: “I’m so glad you’re back! But also hope you really took the time to recover and heal, you’re a bada*s through and through!”
“So sorry to hear about the news!! Glad your back and doing well, sending all my love,” gushed another fan. Speaking shortly after her win, Ava disclosed that she had “never expected” to be crowned the show’s winner.
She told The Sun: “I didn’t really think TV would be my thing — but doing it, it had to be The Voice or The X Factor, because it’s about showcasing voices, isn’t it?
“I’ve always watched these shows, so when I got an opportunity to go on The Voice, I just thought: ‘Why not? All I’m doing now is singing to the dogs.’
“It’s been amazing, everyone has been so supportive.” Elsewhere, the singer told ITV: “Honestly, when my name was shouted, it was just mental, I feel it ringing in my ear all the time. It’s like bells.
“I always remember it every hour, every two hours, and I’m like, OMG. It’s really funny. I’m just grateful. I’m shocked. Grateful. And absolutely just ready for this new life.”
