X Factor star Katie Waissel has been rushed back to hospital with a suspected blood clot on her lung — less than two days after being discharged while still recovering from severe bacterial pneumonia.
The 40-year-old, who finished seventh on the ITV singing competition in 2010, was admitted to the private Wellington Hospital in London for a series of scans and tests as her fight against the serious lung infection continues.
Just a few days ago, the singer, 40, was suffering from “severe bacterial pneumonia”. Katie later took to social media to issue a statement at the time, apologising for being absent from her online accounts.
Taking to X on Thursday, Katie wrote: “After a day and a half at home, I’m now BACK at the hospital and not doing so great.
“Whilst still battling this awful bacterial pneumonia, there’s now a suspected blood clot on my lung, so I’m back in for more scans, tests and needles. I’m fairly certain I’ve run out of veins for people to poke at this point.”
The Celebrity Big Brother 2016 housemate paid tribute to the team at Wellington Hospital for their “incredible” care during her ongoing ordeal.
She added that her priority was for her son Hudson, seven, whom she shares with ex-partner and personal trainer Andy Speer, saying: “Right now, I just want to get better and get home to my little boy.”
In an X post on June 19, the singer-songwriter confessed to her followers that she was “far closer to the edge than I realised” after being rushed to the private St John + St Elizabeth’s Hospital in London suffering from “severe” bacterial pneumonia.
Katie described the harrowing experience as “one of the most frightening and excruciatingly painful experiences of my life”, saying it has strengthened her resolve to cherish every moment.
In a separate X post, shared on Thursday, she wrote: “At one point, I was apparently far closer to the edge than I realised. It’s a very strange feeling being told afterwards just how serious things had become, when the whole time I genuinely thought I just needed to push through it and I’ll be fine because I have to be.”
“I’m still a little bit in shock, if I’m honest, coming to terms with just how close I came to not being here anymore. It’s made me realise there are still so many things I want to see, do, learn and experience, and that perhaps ‘one day’ isn’t a date we should rely on. So, I’ve decided it’s time to write a proper bucket list and start ticking things off.”
Adding to her statement, Katie thanked the “extraordinary teams” at St John and St Elizabeth Hospital in London, who had been treating her after she was rushed in.
She continued: “The kindness, professionalism and compassion I’ve experienced has been nothing short of incredible. I’m taking things one day at a time, doing exactly as I’m told for once, and hoping to be back home sometime next week.”
