A police dog named Penny has been credited with solving a significant theft case in Gujarat, where ₹1.07 crore was stolen from a farmer’s home. The incident occurred on October 12, when the farmer, having recently sold land near the Lothal archaeological site, stored the cash in plastic bags before leaving for work.
After the theft was reported, local police, led by Sub-inspector PN Gohil, initiated an investigation that included questioning around 30 suspects. Penny, a Dobermann, was brought in to assist. During her search, she directed officers to Budha Solanki, a suspect already known for his familiarity with the farmer’s financial situation. Penny’s behavior during a suspect lineup confirmed Budha’s involvement.
Following this lead, police raided Budha’s residence and recovered ₹53.9 lakh. Further questioning revealed that Budha had conspired with his accomplice, Vikram Solanki. The remaining stolen money was located at Vikram’s home. Both men were arrested for theft and trespassing, thanks to Penny’s invaluable assistance in quickly resolving the case.
