Lionel Messi is looking to make a clean break.
After winning the 2022 World Cup, playing in a record five tournaments and setting the record for most match appearances, La Pulgita will suit up for Argentina for what will likely be his last time this summer.
“I’m happy, savoring every moment and excited as ever,” the Rosario native said.
As of now, he and his defending champion club have three matches lined up in the Group Phase to kick off their run to become just the third country to win two consecutive World Cups. They’re scheduled to take on:
Argentina vs. Algeria
Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO
Tuesday, June 16
Argentina vs. Austria
AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX
Monday, June 22
Argentina vs. Jordan
AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX
Saturday, June 27
If you’d like to see the legendary playmaker live, tickets are available for all three tilts.
At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on seats for any one match was $775 including fees on SeatGeek.
The two other matches start at $1,092 and $1,445 including fees, respectively.
Make sure to use promo code NYPOST10 for $10 off purchases over $250 at checkout (Editor’s Note: this discount is only valid for users’ first purchase on SeatGeek).
In the event you’re worried if last-minute tickets are still available, you need not fret.
According to The Financial Times, “FIFA faces empty seats as 180,000 World Cup [group phase] tickets hit resale market.”
Messi, 38, comes into the World Cup following a left hamstring injury in late May. The ailment didn’t hamper his play in Argentina’s pre-tourney friendly against Iceland, though. He entered the game late, drew a foul and sunk the resulting penalty kick for a goal to secure the 3-0 win.
