Ben White could face another hostile reception from England supporters during the November international break, despite returning to the national team under Thomas Tuchel. The Arsenal defender has previously been booed by sections of the crowd because of his decision to step away from international football.
The situation stems from his earlier disagreement with a member of Gareth Southgate’s coaching staff, which led to his absence from the England setup. White remained away from the national team until Tuchel took charge, with the new manager showing confidence in his ability and welcoming him back into the squad.

The defender is now one of five Arsenal players selected for England’s latest fixtures and will be hoping to make a positive impression. Tuchel has shown that he trusts White, making it likely that he will receive an opportunity to play during the international break.
Tuchel wants England fans to move on
However, there is no guarantee that supporters will change their attitude towards White immediately. The defender could still face boos if he features in either of England’s two matches, something Tuchel believes should no longer happen.
The England manager has acknowledged that fans were disappointed by the circumstances surrounding White’s previous departure. Nevertheless, he believes the defender has already demonstrated his commitment and quality since returning to the international setup.

Tuchel wants the situation to become a closed chapter, allowing White to concentrate on representing his country without having to deal with hostility from the stands.
England manager backs Arsenal defender
Speaking via the Metro, Tuchel explained why he believes White deserves the support of England supporters and highlighted the positive impression he made during his previous camp.
‘We could understand the disappointment of the fans with what happened before but I think this is expressed now and this should be a closed book because I think everyone could also see the investment of Ben, the quality of Ben and how he presented himself in the March camp before the World Cup.

‘He did excellent, scored for us and then I think he committed a foul and we conceded. It was very eventful, not so easy to come back. When I speak to him, I always feel the hunger to come back, the excitement. He missed the last camp.’
White will now have another opportunity to establish himself in Tuchel’s plans. His performances could help strengthen his position, while England will hope supporters can put the previous disagreement behind them and recognise what he offers to the team.
