Hyderabad: Thousands of devotees gathered at the historic Eidgah Qutb Shahi Heritage Park in Hyderabad to celebrate Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) on Thursday with religious fervour and devotion.
The 450-year-old Eidgah located near the Seven Tombs in the Golconda Fort locality is regarded as the first Eidgah of Telangana and the Deccan region. Maulana Syed Mateen Ali Shah Quadri, Khateeb and Imam of the historic Eidgah, delivered the Eid sermon and called upon citizens to maintain cleanliness during the festival, especially during animal sacrifices.
Addressing the congregation, he stressed that it is everyone’s responsibility to keep the surroundings clean and ensure that others do not face inconvenience because of festival-related activities. He urged people to uphold civic responsibility and contribute towards maintaining hygiene across the city.
The Imam also appealed to people to respect elders and parents and guide the younger generation towards the values of discipline, cleanliness, brotherhood, peace, and communal harmony.
Highlighting India’s diversity, Maulana Quadri said the country is home to people of different religions, communities, cultures, and languages who live together in harmony, adding that this unity in diversity is a matter of pride for the nation. He further said that every Eid conveys the message of unity, mutual respect, sacrifice, and harmony among all communities.
At the conclusion of the prayers, special prayers were offered for world peace, communal harmony, and the progress and development of India.
The Muslim community across India celebrated Bakrid, the festival of sacrifice. Devotees, including elderly and children, turned out in large numbers in mosques and specially arranged Eidgahs for the morning prayers to celebrate Eid-al-Adha or Bakrid with religious fervour. Religious leaders and scholars addressed believers in the mosques and read out Eid messages urging them to uphold Islamic values and ideals.
